水俣市民から海の温泉として愛され続けている「湯の児温泉」。
その湯の児温泉へ水俣市内からつながる道は、山を越えのルートと不知火海沿いを走るルートの２つがあります。

海を臨めるルートは、桜並木が続くチェリーロードとして有名で、季節には、桜の淡いピンクと菜の花の黄色、そして海の青のコントラストがとても美しい景色を見せてくれます。でも今回、おススメするのは、山を越えのルート！

Yunoko Onsen is a hot spring of the sea that is loved by Minamata citizens.
There are two routes leading to Yunoko Onsen from Minamata City: the route over the mountains and the route along the Shiranui Sea.

The route along the sea is famous for its cherry blossom-lined road. In spring, the contrast between the light pink of the cherry blossoms, the yellow of the rape blossoms, and the blue of the sea makes for a beautiful sight. The route through the mountains is the one we recommend this time.

湯の児温泉へ続く山沿いの道は、水俣川の河口付近から山沿いに入り、クネクネと続くやや狭い道を登ります。大きなヘアピンカーブを曲がりしばらく進むと頂上付近に至り、そこは通称「とんとん峠」。

とんとん峠からは一気に視界が開け、眼下に広がるのは不知火海！

光がふり注ぐ不知火海はキラキラと輝き、地域のシンボルである湯の児島や温泉街、遠くには天草の多島美を見ることができます。なんとも言えず美しい。
日常生活の中で、なんの気なしに通る道すがら、とんとん峠から見える景色は、何度となく驚きと感動を与えてくれる景色であり「あぁ水俣って良いところだなぁ」と思わせてくれる場所です。

The mountain path to Yunoko Onsen is a narrow path that starts near the mouth of the Minamata River and goes up a narrow, winding road. The road takes a large hairpin curve and leads to the top of the mountain. This is the place called “Tonton Pass”.

From the Tonton Pass, you have a clear view of the Shiranui Sea below.

The Shiranui Sea sparkles in the sunlight. You can see Yunojima, the region’s symbol, and the hot spring town, as well as the beauty of Amakusa’s many islands in the distance. It’s hard to put into words how beautiful it is.　You may pass by it without thinking about it in your daily life, but the view from the Tonton Pass is amazing and inspiring. The Tonton Pass is a place that makes me think “Oh, Minamata is a nice place.”

ここから海をみるだけで、プレゼントをもらったように心が沸き立ち、少し沈みがちなときでも「よし頑張ろう」と心を温めてくれる場所です。
水俣では、至る所で海を眺めることができますが、私のおすすめの場所の一つです。
皆さんもぜひ、水俣の海を眺めに来てください。

Looking at the sea from here, my heart is filled with excitement as if I had received a gift, and even when I tend to be a little depressed, my heart is invigorated by the thought, “Okay, let’s do our best.” In Minamata, there are many places where you can see the sea, and the Tonton-Touge Pass is one place I recommend.　Tonton Pass is one of my favorite places in Minamata.
